EL shirts, also known as electro luminescent shirts, are garments that incorporate electro luminescence technology to produce light. This technology allows for the creation of eye-catching designs and patterns that light up, making the shirt glow in the dark.

The fundamental principle behind EL shirts is based on a phenomenon called electro luminescence. Electro luminescence is the emission of light from a material when an electric current or a high-frequency alternating current is applied to it. In EL shirts, a thin, flexible panel or sheet of electro luminescent material is embedded into the fabric.
The main components of an EL shirt include:
1. Electro Luminescent Panel: This panel consists of a thin layer of phosphor material sandwiched between two conductive layers. The phosphor emits light when electrically charged.
2. Power Source: EL shirts are powered by a small battery pack or power inverter that converts the power from the battery into the high-frequency alternating current required to light up the electro luminescent panel.
3. Inverter: The inverter circuitry is responsible for converting the direct current (DC) from the battery into the alternating current (AC) required for the EL panel. It also controls the frequency and voltage of the current to match the specific requirements of the electro luminescent material.
4. Connectors and Wiring: The EL panel is connected to the battery pack or power inverter using conductive wires and connectors. These components ensure the electrical connection between the power source and the EL panel.
When the power source is turned on, the inverter circuit generates a high-frequency AC that is applied to the electro luminescent panel. This causes the phosphor material within the panel to emit light. The light emitted is then diffused through the fabric of the shirt, making the design or pattern visible.
EL shirts usually have an external power switch or a hidden pressure-sensitive switch located in a discreet area. When the switch is activated, the power flows from the battery pack to the inverter, which powers the EL panel and makes it illuminate.
It's important to note that EL shirts require power to remain lit, so they typically have a finite battery life. The duration of the battery life depends on factors such as the capacity of the AAA type battery pack and the brightness settings of the EL panel.
EL shirts are popular for various purposes, including fashion, advertising, performances, and events. They offer a unique and attention-grabbing way to showcase illuminated designs on clothing.
